LEAD ENGINEER - SHIPBUILDING

Our client, Irving Shipbuilding in Halifax, Nova Scotia is currently working on a number of significant projects for the Department of National Defence and the Canadian Coast Guard. These projects are worth an estimated $25 billion in work that will see the construction of new combat vessels for the Canadian Navy over the next 30 years. We are currently recruiting to fill the role of Lead Engineer for the Arctic/Offshore Patrol Ship program.
Reporting to the AOPS Engineering Director, this individual will have the responsibility for managing and overseeing the engineering and design products associated with the AOPS, including:
• The Lead Engineer is familiar with all the requirements levied by Canada on the AOPS program
• The Lead Engineer is familiar with all the requirements levied by the Classification Society on the AOPS program
• The Lead Engineer is responsible for ensuring the AOPS is built to satisfy those requirements and is classed.
• The Lead Engineer is responsible for approval of any changes to program requirements from a technical perspective
• The Lead Engineer is responsible for approval of any changes to the functional or detail design after a baseline has been set
• The Lead Engineer is responsible for ensuring any integrator design meets the program requirements
• The Lead Engineer is responsible for approving all engineering and design products,
• The Lead Engineer is responsible for resolving technical integration and interface issues with the AOPS design
• The Lead Engineer provides the Engineering Director with metrics on technical progress including performance against key design metrics (weight, stability, cooling, power, etc)
• The Lead engineer maintains oversight of overall issues and technical liens associated with the completion of the design; includes progress to Classification
Qualifications – Education, Knowledge and Skills:
• Qualified Engineer with significant Naval marine experience
• Minimum of 10 years relevant leadership experience in Naval marine environment
• Knowledge of working with a Government and Naval customer base
• Proven ability to lead a team to achieve high performance levels in a complex fast moving environment
• Ability to manage through teamwork and influence
• Familiarity with AOPS design and requirements preferred
• Familiarity with Canadian and ISI AOPS technical team preferred
In addition all successful applicants must meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
