Our client, Irving Shipbuilding in Halifax, Nova Scotia is currently working on a number of significant projects for the Department of National Defence and the Canadian Coast Guard. These projects are worth an estimated $25 billion in work that will see them building new combat vessels for the Canadian Navy over the next 30 years. We are currently recruiting to fill the role of Construction Manager to oversee the modernization of their facilities.

Responsibilities will include:

• Managing on-site construction activities for the facilities modernization project, including demolition, marine work (dredging, aggregate work, and heavy concrete work), industrial facility construction and equipment installation.
• Managing early works and pre-order contracts as well as the general building contracts
• Ensuring successful delivery through continuous monitoring of required Scope Budget and Schedule
• Managing subcontractors, including the approval of their progress billings
• Ensuring that quality and safety standards are met
• Working with a team of peers to achieve Facilities Modernization project milestones
• Coordinating with existing shipyard operations

As the successful candidate you have relevant experience managing large construction projects, a Bachelor of Civil Engineering Degree or a Civil Technologist Diploma and a minimum of 10 years’ experience. You are detail oriented with excellent interpersonal and communication skills and have the ability to interact effectively with a variety of audiences at all levels both within and outside the organization. Experience using project management software (e.g.: MS Project) is a must.

All successful applicants must meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
