SR. ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN

Sr. Electrical Engineering Technologist
Halifax, NS

Position is open to candidates at the fully qualified level of the engineering design function.
Experience performing varied engineering design assignments requiring general familiarity within a broad field of engineering.

Qualifications & Knowledge:
Eligible for registration as a certified electrical engineering technologist with a minimum of 10 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
Must have a solid understanding of engineering of buildings preferably for academic and research institutions, health care, offices, municipal infrastructure and transportation maintenance and operations facilities;
Proficiency in Power System Analysis (short circuit, protection coordination and arc-flash hazard analysis) would be an asset;
Sound practical knowledge of building information modelling and drafting software. Must have working experience with AutoCAD and preferably REVIT;
Solid understanding of industry and regulatory standards and design criteria;
Demonstrated knowledge of a variety of standard engineering methods and techniques.

Responsibilities:
Preparing electrical plans and specifications for building construction;
Provide technical input for electrical engineering reports and construction cost estimates;
Conducting investigations and analysis including occasional on-site investigations;
Proficient in providing construction support including site inspections and commissioning assistance.
Interpreting engineering specifications, resolving design and field engineering difficulties and coordinating work schedules;
Ensuring design work interfaces will with that of other disciplines;
Preparing progress reports and monitoring project controls;
Recommending substitutions in materials and payment for complete work;
Consulting with other departments, suppliers and contractors to clarify specifications;
Keeping abreast of new technical developments and estimating their impacts.
