Our client, Irving Shipbuilding, is part of the J.D. Irving Group of companies and is in the business of building quality ships and repairing vessels. The company’s primary site is Halifax Shipyard, with three other locations in the Maritime Provinces. It is currently working on a number of significant projects for the Department of National Defence and the Canadian Coast Guard. Based in Halifax, Nova Scotia and reporting to the President, this strategic role will have functional responsibility for procurement, logistics and contract management.
Responsibilities:
• Develop the company supply chain strategy, policy and procedures that support the organization’s vision to be the trusted centre of excellence for designing and building the federal fleet.
• Liaise with engineering, production, program management and estimating to meet all program requirements.
• Lead the negotiation of contracts with major suppliers that ensure all program requirements are met and risks are minimized. This will include the development of a negotiation strategy that delivers against business objectives and achieves sustainable relationships with suppliers.
• Lead the development and performance management of the supply chain including key metrics and balanced scorecard.
• Analyze industry trends and evolving supply chain technology to proactively identify supply base issues to minimize risk, protect continuity of supply and exploit emerging opportunities.
• Lead a team that evaluates supplier core competencies, competitive pricing position and policies to ensure the best quality, pricing and delivery of products and services.
• Contribute to the company's overall growth strategy.
• Network and represent the company to outside organizations.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
• Minimum 10 years major contracts procurement experience, preferably in a heavy industrial environment
• Minimum 5 years senior leadership experience in supply chain role(s).
• Relevant undergraduate degree.
• MBA and/or professional purchasing designation or equivalent considered assets.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively leverage IT systems to improve procurement efficiency and outcomes.
